700r4 / 4L60 ?

What is the difference?
1992 B4C-350 RPO code say 700r4 and the GM Service manual shows only a 4L60 rebuild. Please explain-

GM started using a system to catagorize there transmissions a few years ago.
4L60 = 4 speed/rear drive/60 rating (old name TH-700)
3T40 = 3 speed/transaxle/40 rating (old name TH-125)

There's new transmission that where born with the new system, like the 4T65 etc...

I guess a TH-350 would be like a 3L70? & the TH-400 would be a 3L80.

Hope this helps a little

Ron
