I have a '91 bird with a 305 and a 700R4. I was driving today when I went to accelerate the tach jumped to 4,000 rpm and I didn't move,so I let off the gas when the rpms dropped it felt like it kicked back into gear so I hit the gas and the engine just spun up again, then when the rpms came down it felt like it kicked into gear again. So I pulled the car over and stopped it, I hit the gas and the car moved forward but I didn't want to try and drive it back home so I had it towed. When I got the car home I had to drive it off the flat bed so reverse still works. I checked fluid and it's full. I can get a GM replacement for $1,150.00 or should I take it to a shop and let them look at it first? and does anyone know of a good shop or even a bad shop to avoid in the Clearwater,FL area?
