Rebuild my rearend??
My right main seal is prob done-for and main seal (at driveshaft) has lost integrity too.
Is it a humongous pain to pull the rear off and replace those seals myself [as well as slip in some 2-series 3.43's], or should I just scrap it and get a fourth gen rear?
I know about the wheel offset issue, but am still searching for pics to know how it looks.

i ithnk you're a bit confussed on where the main seal is, it's at the end of the crank shaft. i beleive you mean the axle seal and pinion seal. no it isn't a bad job to replace either. it isn't a bad job to replace the ring and pinion gears and it's even easier to just replace the carrier. the big stumbbling block is to set up ring and pinion gear set requires a lot of tools most people don't have.

true...my knowledge of this area is not too good. Chilton leaves out alot. And I have not flipped thru Haynes yet. Ok...then this job is doable. I thought about replaceing the seals myself and just taking the entire apparatus to a shop and having them set the gears in.
But....the thought of disc brakes and a posi rear with 3.23's from a scrapped 4th gen sounds really attractive. Have you heardof anyone using the 3rd gen rims labeled "front" on the rear end to make up for the back-spacing?
Just a thought
