Ok heres the deal....my 86 Sports Coupe is stock with the LG4 and 700r4 combo....140,000 miles and it ran good up until about a few hundred miles ago....heres whats wrong....There was a ticking sound coming from the LG4 when it was reved...just a listen from a neighbor and he figures the engine misses somewhere....probably a distribitor problem...thats not the big deal...the engine fan wont turn on unless its on AC....not that big of a deal...except if it overheats lol....but heres the main problem...when i give it gas theres a loud THUMP coming from the car it sound like in the back but it also sounds like the front....ive narrowed it to a tranny mount....(if not let me know what you think) but the main problem is my 700r4 runs like **** now...the first and second gear selections wont work and my drive wont work either...the over drive is the only forward motion gear that works..if i put it in drive and give it a lil gas it barely nudges...but if i slam the gas it does nothing but rev ....any ideas about any of this would help thanks

I agree with you on the tranny mount, very common problem.

As for the other problem, double check the shifter linkage. It wouldn't make sense that the car would start in OD but not any other gear w/ an internal problem. Starting out in OD actually uses 1 less clutch pack then starting out in Drive. So if it starts out in OD, then the foward clutch and sprag assembly should be OK, which means it should start out in D or 2 as well. Its very common for the shift linkage to come loose where it bolts to the pan.

yeah usually a sudden thumb when giving it gas would be the tranny mount, sometimes you can really feel it..

on my 1988 i had a bad tranny mount and wheel hop, i replaced the mount and new rear lower control arms for under 100 bucks..

The Rear Lower Control Arms was 90% of the cost in that deal. New tranny mounts are less than $10. However, if you want to replace that mount for the last time, get an energy suspension tranny mount from summit. They run about $25 and you WON'T break it.
