T5 is , well bad. 200r4 Questions inside
Guys,
To bring you up to speed the T5 in my 87 is about shot and I just grooved the flywheel and clutch, so a new clutch, rebuilt tranny and resurfaced flywheel are in order. Now I figured that up to about 1000 bucks if I do the work myself(including the rebuild).
I was talking to my uncle and he races GN's, he has a 200r4 laying around that he swapped out for a turbo 400(he ran 10s on the 200r4, now runs 9.50's on the 400). He told me that we should throw that in my car, I don't know what he wants for it but from doing research and just general knowledge I've found that I'm NOT putting a 700r4 in and that this would be ideal to keep OD.
What I need to know is the cost of a good torque converter and what drive shaft I will need to get. I know I'll need a spohn torque arm/crossmember combo.
Anybody that has done this conversion and have any insight would be greatly appriciated. I'm just getting figures as of right now.. I don't know if I'm going to do the swap yet.
Thanks,
Brendan

i put a 2004r in my 84 and it wasnt very hard at all. what we did was use the original crossmember and have a piece of steel bent to go back to the mount and use the bend with 2 holes in it to put the trq arm on. we bolted the bent piece of steel to the rubber mount and the crossmember and to is working out fine. the driveshaft was like 48" or something we had made for $80. we used the trq converter from the 2004r and flywheel from the 283. good luck, its not realy that hard.
