Need TC Lockup help

Something's felt weird with my tranny lately. Shifts are normal, nothing wrong with gears engaging disengaging etc.

It's on the highway and it feels like to me that lockup isn't working, I toggled my lockup switch and doesn't seem to affect my transmission anymore.

I need more info on how to diagnose this.

Where's the lockup solenoid located on the transmission?

I should ensure that I can feed the solenoid a proper 12 v right?

If it is electrically sound, what are the mechanical aspects that can break thus not allowing lockup?

Is there a lockup valve in the valve body?

And finally not problem related, but I ran without the lockup and actually ran a personal best??? With traction worse than the last personal best no less too...

Normal people couldn't be bothered if it didn't lock up, I'm one of the weirdos that needs to daily drive my car AND worry about gas mileage...

Thanks for any replys, hope someone out there can help me...

I had the exact same problem, and like you, it was immediately obvious. Here's how you troubleshoot it.

The TCC works like this. Power comes from the fuse box or something, which is fed to a switch on the brake pedal, usually seperate form the main brake switch. That is for disconnecting it when you're slowing down. Make sure this isn't bad and you have power here.

Next, get under the car and disconnect the 4 wire plug, it faces up from the pan rail on the driver's side IIRC. If i'm reading the schematic i have laying here right, the front wire on the outside will be that power wire, and the back wire is the ground wire that goes to your switch and the ECM. So check the voltage. And hit your switch and check continuity to ground. Now you know the rest of the wiring is OK.

So at this point, you're replacing the TCC solenoid. It's easy. Unfortunately, you have to pull the old one to get the replacement because a lot of different ones were used in different years / applications. Just drop the pan, follow the wires to the solenoid, it is only held in by 2 bolts. It just pulls straight out at that point.

Once you have it out, a dealer can hook you up. I doubt you can get one elsewhere.

I've tracked it to the solenoid, thanks a lot! I'll get to changing that today.

Changed out everything, its back to normal thanks a lot for the help! Damn messy job though lol.
