torque converter stall question

hey guys, I'v just replaced my converter in my 700r now as far a i knew the one i had was stock and if i was to stall it up ( the old foot brake hit the gas ) it would stall to 22, 2300 rpm now with the new one (a 2600 stall ) it will only stall to 1800 so whats the deal did i just buy a stock one or will it loosen up in the next few miles

thanks for any help

No, it won't loosen up. What you see is what you get.

As for the 1800 RPM, thats probably correct for a 2600 stall. You more than likely won't see the full 2600 unless you have a trans brake or are launching hard with slicks.

As for the old "stock" converter doing 2200-2300, its unlikely. If it did, it was either busted internally or it was not "stock".

Just watch your tach, when your cruising low speed in drive then nail it, I'll bet my left nut the convertor flashes to the advertised 2600. As far as the low end slippage I had the same problem with my Coan 2800, it would almost kill my motor when I put it in gear cause the cam needed a looser convertor, switched over to the TH350 and 3500 stall, much better 60' times and it drives pretty well on the street.
