700r4 ????
I have a 700 that slips out of 2nd gear @ 3000 rpm and now when i put the car in gear it feels like a normal car, doesn't slam into gear like after the last rebuild goes in soft.
I'm thinking i need new clutches but is there something i'm overlooking.

2nd gear uses a band; it's the same band used for 4th gear, no clutches involved. Only "clutch" gears are 1 & 3. How's the trans fluid look?

fluid looks kinda tarnished. I had a kevlar band in there which should have held up but i will pull this apart sometime this winter and hopefully that is all she needs.
that also explains why it goes into gear so soft because that is controled by the band correct?

Ummm....Tom....What about the forward clutch? It is applied in all forward gears. A semi-educated guess on my part would be the band though, unless you can also get it to do it in first or third gears.
Keep in mind that there are numberous other things that it could be, there all all sorts of valve body issues that could affect this, but the friction components are most likely, and when tearing into it, the most common.

I have seen a few with 1st, 3rd and 4th gears holding fine, but slipping in second. The cause for all of them was the 2-4 band was busted. The anchor broke out of the back of the band. I know what your thinking, why didn't 4th slip, since it is the "2-4 band". I don't know for sure, probably due to the amount of pin travel from each apply piston, but the bands were busted, and a new one fixed it.

not sure if it slips in 4th cause it only slips @ full throttle and i don't go that fast. but this makes sense i will tear this thing down and see what i find.
