Can't decide between 3.73 and 4.10, need advice

I finally got a mess of little issues sorted out with my car, and I am going to ditch the 2.73s I have right now. I have a 97 T56 in my car, so I have the .5 6th gear ratio. Everyone seems to like 4.10s with this tranny, but I'm scared of installing them and wishing I went with a taller gear. I was wondering if I should get 3.73s just to be on the safe side and maybe get a little better highway mileage, or just do what everyone else does and go with 4.10s.

Right now, I have a 305TBI, so I know either of these would be a mismatch for this engine, but I will be building up a carbed 350 later on. So basically, I want to make my choice based on what would work best with the 350, not the 5.0.

Anyone have any advice or suggestions?

This will be/is a daily driver by the way.

I'd say to stick with the 3.73's for a daily driver. You'll notice a big enough difference going from 2.73's to 3.73's!! I noticed a big difference when I went from a 3.42 to a 3.73.

I had been debating this for some time. since i plan on converting to the lt1 intake and some afr's i decided that when i get some $ i would go with the 4.10's because of the much better air flow i would gain from the head/intake change. i guess it depends on what rpm rang your motor will make power in. i am still not 100% sure of the 4.10's though i go back and forth, although i have been in a lt1 6 speed car and man that thing pulls.

Well, if its just a daily driver, go with the 3.73's.

Well, as far as matching the gear ratio to the power band, I am 99% sure I am going with vortec heads and either the XE262 or the XE268. I think those two cams would work well with something between 3.42 - 4.10, but I need to keep in mind that this will be my daily driver. Everyone I hear talk about running a T56 and 4.10s loves it, but its seems like a really short gear to me. You guys that are running this combo, how do you like it?

Oh, by the way, I figured someone would mention getting a posi unit sooner or later. I have an slp posi unit sitting in my room waiting to go in with new gears.

I got 4.10's in mine and am switching over to 3.73's. I think the 4.10 is just a little too much for me on the street and too much for the track too. I'm planning on trapping over 114 mph this spring and i think the 4.10's will cause me to shift into 5th before the end of the quarter.

3.73 if you ever plan on taking long trips or you use your car on the highway. In OD (700R4), I'm running about 2700 RPM at 70mph (with 3.73:1). Of course, with your .5 6th gear that number will be lower.

3.73 No questions asked if used for daily driver. You will still feel an amazing difference at the wheels compared to the stock 2.73s too.

I have the 4.10's with a T-56, really happy with the way the car runs.
Highway speeds run around 1,500 to 2,000 in 6th.
