t5 or t56
i have a 283 with 041 heads .427.444 lift and i think about 278 288 duation cam. it will be making about 300hp and probably 300-350lbs trq when its done. in about a year or 2 unless i get a lot of money soon i want to put in a manual. i either want a t5 or a t56 if i can do it. i have a th-2004r right now and i don't know how long it will last, i'm not realy expecting it to go out soon. what i need to know is how much is the cost and how hard is it to get in a t5 vs a t56. i have seen so far that the t56 costs about 2k to do with a junkyard tranny and parts. how much would a t5 cost and would i be pushing it at all? i may eventualy go to a 350 or bigger shortblock later on.
does anyone have the ratios of the t5 and t56? thx

From what I am fiding out as of late, t-5's are iffy. Some people run them and get them fine into 12's. Some people put a 350 behind them and kill the synchros. I hear the casing is too weak on the trans and allows the insides to shift causing problems when put under a lot of stress. Drag radials.... ehhh... hard shifts.... prolly gunna kill a t-5 over 300 horse.
Cheap way to go though. I got one that needs synchros (shop told me itll cost 200$) that I am getting rid of if you wanna get one for now cheap.
T-56 is what i am saving for. They will hold up to hard shifts and d/r's up to about 450 horse. For now... try a t-5... maybe youll get lucky. Mine shifts, but you have to double clutch it sometimes to take off. I can still nail second and smoke the tires... pulling 350 horse. (g/fs car) Dont put on drag radials and you should be good up until about 350-380 horse with a t-5 (from personal experience)
PM me if you would like to know anything else
