(1990 Iroc-Z w/ auto 700-R4)

When I put my car in reverse, the transmission will commonly make this sort of rapid creaking noise and it's an erratic noise it's not a consistent beat... I assume it's the transmission b/c the noise only comes when the car is in reverse and moving slowly-not at all.
Any ideas? I hope this is just some vibration symptom of old 700-R4s and not something foreshadowing tranny death.

 

not too sure, but if your tranny shifts good and works fine in the forward gears i dont think it would be dieing..

does it change with engine temp?
when did it start happening?

 

Since ive owned it, so... 6 weeks maybe =)
No telling how long before that.
Shifts good, just exhibits old transmission qualities. you know the type.

 

did you ever figure out this noise? Mine does same type of noise. Also does it in low and second gear position too. most noticeable when cold and in reverse.

 

start with easy stuff like trans mount split or worn out u joints and go from there.
