Well - That explains why it's grinding...

I'm using the wrong tranny oil!! I called to order a rebuild kit from Gearzone.com, I called, and the guy on the other end (Paul), was very helpful. I explained that 2nd gear grinds sometime, and he was saying that most boxes fail due to lack of lube.

I then mentioned I believe that's what happened to mine in it's past life, because I had to replace the input shaft bearing. But now I keep it topped off with 80W90 like my Haynes manual recommended. He said "You're running the wrong lube". I was amazed because I even had a shop check the lube on it, and they said nothing about having the wrong lube. He even asked me if I wanted to hold off on my order until until I try Mobil-1 ATF synthetic like he recommended.

Even if it doesn't work with the new lube, I appreciate a shop that was more willing to help a person rather than just take thier money..

I was impressed, and I highly recommend them!

Thanks Md, I don't know yet whether the problem is solved yet, because I'm stuck working and don't have the time to try it out. I will this weekend though.

I anticipate it will make a HUGE difference. With 80W90 in there, it grinds when going into 2nd - but only when the car is relatively cold. After about 1/2 hour it starts shifting smoother and smoother.

With my luck though, it'll most likely leak somewhere when I use the ATF.
