tranny swap, now slow as ****
i swapped my 700r4 for a 700r4 from a 4.3L 91 astrovan after mine bit the dust. Now it's slow as hell. at full throttle i shift out of 1st gear at 3200rpm and 2nd at 2200. i should be keeping up with 4th gens.
someone suggested it was the governor that was different? someone else said that my tv cable wasn't right. i broke the plastic deal off the end by accident and zip-stripped it onto the carb. Is that a bad idea?
anybody have any ideas? i'm gettin desperate, it was getting nice and fast until the damn trans blew. now i feel like i'm back to step 1.
(ps, using the stall converter from the 4.3 van too)

I know the tv cable can do that but is it the problem? just replace it adjust it and see. the tv being set wrong can do bad things like that
Go to your favorite tranny shop and ask if they carry Teckpak-
Fitzall detent cable end # K35955CE. Check it out at:
www.teckpak-fitzall.com
It snaps over your existing TV cable
Always readjust the TV cable after carb or tranny swaps.
As for the tranny, I would see if I could get the governor from
the original tranny and put it in. Put a new drive gear on it
before you install it, too.

wow i learn something new everyday. i didnt know u had to adjust ur TV cable after a carb or tranny swap. i swapped in an edelbrock 600 carb and i didnt have to move around the TV cable or anything much. i just unhooked the cables and fuel lines and acume lines and put the new carb in and my tranny still shifts wounder full, just like when i had the q-jet in there but the only difference is i feel more power now.

swapped the governor, still slow as hell, 2 3 and 4 are fine, but 1st holds/stops at 3000-3500 for 3 or 4 seconds...it sucks

The Astro 700R-4 was NOT entirely the same as the 700 used behind the V8's. You are now short a 3-4 clutch (or two, can't remember), you have the small boost valves and the "soggy" servo. Right after I did my L05 swap the trans would slip HARD going into 2nd at WOT.
I ran around with the OEM 120k mile 700R-4 with the corvette servo and a crappy B&M shift kit for almost a year and it worked fine. Although I wouldn't get the B&M shift kit, that was just a quick fix for a bad situation.
Grind a little bit of metal off the weights of the governor. A little bit at a time until it's where you want it.
The Astro had a different stall speed converter than the V8 trans did. On the converter there should be a sticker with a 4 character code. The 2nd letter is the stall speed:
K = K-85, 1211 rpm
G = K-100, 1397 rpm
F = K-110, 1611 rpm
E = K-115, 1654 rpm
B = K-140, 2025 rpm
