gear ratio advice please

Here is my situation.. I currently have a 9 bolt with 2:77 gears. I want better 1/4 times without sacrificing drivability and taching out my engine running at high speeds. Everybody I know is telling me to go with 3:73s. I have a chance to get a 9 bolt from a 5 speed car with 3:45 gears. My car is my daily driver and I often drive over 75-80 mph. I run my car at the track a few times a month but et times arent everything.Would the 3:45s be a good choice or should I get a set of 3:73s? I have heard a few comments about 3:73s being too much gear. Any advice will certainally be appreciated. Is $300 for the 3:45 rear a good price? It is complete and ready to go in. Thanks

thats not bad dood... considering it is already setup and figure you would buy those 3.45s for $200+ new and the install kit would be $100... it is almost a better deal to get the entire rear... if it is in good condition

Not a bad deal. Id pick up that 9 bolt...3:45s is a good ratio all around.

borlaZ06 is right... its a good middle gear... benefits of being higher... IMO the 3.42 is perfect for a car with TPI still on it... not saying that 3.73s are bad... but i went with 3.42s in my 10 bolt cause it would be easier day to day... and it would be better for the intake flow... since they flow better mid range than way up top

Yup, 3.4x gears are the all around champ. They give good performance and also let you drive on the highway. 3.73s are iffy with the latter.
