Need some info about torque converters
I have searched and all I can find is what kind and stall to get. I want to know what the stall is. If I have a 2500 stall converter, what happens at 2500rpms? When I power brake my GTA right now the tires start spinning just past 1500 if I get a 2500 does that meen that I can power brake it up to 2500 before it will stall?
Any help would be appreciated.

it does not necessarily mean that you will be able to tach it to 2500 before the tires start to spin... some do and some do not... i have a buddy with a 9.5" Vigilante 2800 stall and he starts to spin tires at just past 1800 rpms... a 2500 stall will mean that when you stop the gas... the car will automatically "flash" or jump to 2500 rpms... its kinda like a 2500 rpm clutch dump:lala:

First off, sweet car. I dont know why but I love 89 GTAs
If I let off the gas and it jumps to 2500rpms then is it not a good idea to have a converter that high in a daily driver? Or does it just take some time to get used to? I guess I just dont understand how they really help 60ft times.
Thanks
Brian

Driving normally, you dont have to be at 2500 rpm to start moving, its just going to slip more up to 2500. You want to choose a converter that is a little above where your power band starts. And if you get a 2500 stall, it might not be 2500, it will be around it, it depends on how much HP your engine makes and other things too.

My engine is basically stock. I hope to have headers, cam, 1.6RRs, ported/polished heads, and better runners with in the next couple of months. Do you think a 2500 would be ok or should I look at something a little higher.

my $.02... but i would go no less than 2800 stall... stock is like 1800... so just 700 rpm isn't that big... i am gonna get a 3000 stall here before too long to go with my coming 383... and sorry, i was kinda confusing in my earlier post... what i meant is... when you really get into the gas... not getting off of it... the rpms will flash straight to 2500 or whatever the stall is... or around there... it depends on what kind of torque you are putting out and such... and like definitive1 said... you don't have to get to 2500 rpms to start rolling... but it will take a little more gas to get rolling than it used to with out it... but not too much more... they are very streetable... from what i understand... you want a converter to stall about 400 rpm below your torque peak... it helps 60 foots because when you come off the line you are able to come off at a higher RPM by either flashing the converter to 2500 or whatever, or stallin it up to it with both brake and gas... plus it slips through the gear some... and you get torque multiplication... which is harder to explain... but good luck with that setup man... oh yeah... and sweet car too... i wanted a black one when i stumbled upon this one!!!
