shift linkage problems...help!

I recently replaced my 700-r4 tranny and have been plagued with problems concerning the shift linkage ever since. The person that owned the car before me had the linkage all jury-rigged together. But, it never quite worked right. Does anyone know the appropriate way to bolt together the shifter arm to the transmission case? I have tried different things such as the RIGHT hardware, but it is just too tight and too hard to shift into gear. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Replace the cable. Put the bracket and all that together right. It should work like brand new. About 95% of all shifter problems are solved be a new cable.
