i recentyl bought a 91 rs with a t5 and the trans has 60,000 k on it and is in great shape, but the motor had a rod knocking so i wont be driving it for a while. my daily driver is a 91 z28 with t5 also. but my z28 has 140,000k on it and the syncros are completly mess up. my question is are these tranies the same? do they have the same gear ratios? do they have the same mounts? can they be switched?

Right, it will work fine and bolt up IF the RS is a V8, but even then the gear ratios are different, at least 5th is.

 

Just one note here. Check your flywheel to make sure it has no cracks in it. Some times with these engines, what sounds like a rod knock turns out to be a cracked flywheel. It's worth a look anyhow. Just think if that is all it is you have less work to do. HTH
