I did apply load with a screwdriver during the marking, I would say medium pressure. I set the side preload by getting the proper backlash then adding shims equally until I just barely could get them in with my hands then I added .005 to each side then rechecked backlash. Here is the coast side. I appreciate this help greatly.
Your coast side is way to close to the Toe. You need to add more pinion shim. You may find that you won't be able to get both Coast and Drive gear faces perfect. I have seen bearing bores not drilled on center. The best you can do is make a happy compromise on both.

Not going too good. This housing is not the origional that came with the car. After talking with richmond I decided to set up the origional rear with the new gear. For some reason the pinion is not seating properly and I do not have that small an assortment of shims. With the origional rear end the depth tool indicates a .039 shim, which I have. So that is what I am doing now. This is a very good but aggrivating experience for me, oh well it's a learning thing. Thanks for your help. I will keep you posted.
.039 sounds more like it. I think once you get this set up, you'll get a much better pattern and you can compare a good one, to the ones you posted and you'll see what I mean. Good luck and keep us posted!
Here you go.
I think this is more like it. .008 backlash and medium pressure while marking. The drive pic is not really good because the pinion tooth is spread out across the entire ring tooth with no marking on heel or toe.. Hope this is it.

Its hard to tell from the pictures. The Drive side doesn't look to bad, hard to tell on the coast. Have you been taking all your readings from teh same spot? Try on the other side of the ring gear and see if they are the same.
Your drive side should have a slight bias towards the toe, since it it will tend to move a little under heavy load. Here is a pic of a decent pattern:

This is why I dont like Richmond they have a very narrow acceptable pattern range and thier gears still whine. http://www.yukongear.com/catalog/catalog.html
Check around here, I use thier install book when setting up rear ends (any gear set) and have good luck. Yukon has about ten acceptable patterns and all are quiet. Id look for the pattern page for you but I have to head out for work now.
