transmission problem

everytime I shift into either Reverse or Drive my car jolts very badly. I never have any other problems with the trany other than that. what is this from. And what is the best why to remedy this. The last time it did this, it moved my car a whole foot on the road.

What year is the tranny? Have you ever adjusted the TV Cable? Does it shift normal?

If you have a TPI, it will be right HERE:

If you have something else, the cable will still look similar. Do a search on here about adjusting the cable. Lots of people have had luck w/ Transfixleo's method.

I'm trying to find TV cable in my Haynes manual, but it's not there, is there another name for it?

How much do you adjust it? There really is only one adjustment, which if you go by the procedure, will put MAX Throttle Valve at Wide Open Throttle.

You should only have to do it once. If that doesn't solve the problem, then it might not be the problem. Its just a starting point. Something easy and common that you can rule out.

ummmmmmmm , I got a question , what if the TV cable is missing ? mine is , and it jolts like that too , also , it acts like it slips when it is changing gears , but it doesnt slip once its in gear . I serviced the tranny and found no metal shavings . Could the problem be that missing TV cable ? someone told me it sounded like the converter was going bad and not locking up properly . does that sound feasible ? Thanks for the info guys !
