If i decide to go 700r4 which is what i think i will do.... what would my tranny shift and act like with a non-lockup converter as opposed to a lockup converter.... is it that big a difference?

Well, you'll get worse gas mileage for highway driving and supposedly your tranny will run warmer as it'll constantly be "slipping". I've run mine for about 16 months now with no lockup and get 10-11mpg with my 383. It doesn't get hot due to running the largest plate style cooler I could find (which is why I said "supposedly" earlier). I was looking to go back to computer control when I went with dual TBI which is the reason I never went with installing a vacuum switch for it.

YMMV.

Lower RPM down the highway and a cool tranny. Just don't hook-up the lockup wires and it won't lockup. Do some searches and figure out the correct wires and put in a toggle switch. Then if you decide you like the lock-up and want it automatic buy one of those kits with the vacuum switch.
