Aftermarket Flywheel

with a 350 close to 400 horses (hopefully but prolly like 350) and a t56 tranny with a new clutch is a new flywheel needed. i will be putting this in my 91 z and the tranny comes with a flywheel. i just need to konw if a new flywheel is needed or just a good idea because of weight savings

If the fly wheel bolts up properly, I'd have it re-surfaced
and put it back into service.

for a street driven car a lighter flywheel is usually a bad idea, unless your gonna drive around with the absolute **** revved out of the motor all the time. it could be very sluggish with a light flywheel from a stop.

theres nothing wrong with a stock flywheel as long as its in good condition. a billet flywheel (of the same weight) is good too, they stand up to heat a little better

weight savings isnt' always a good idea for a flywheel. (if u are talking about an aluminum flywheel) the lighter the flywheel then yes u will rev quicker. but ur revs will also drop quicker in between shifts which is not what u want for a street car..

if u are just curious as to if u need a new non aluminum flywheel due to excess wear on ur stock one. and good machine shop should be able to tell you if u have too much wear or not. i have heard that you want to replace the flyhwheel after resurfacing it 2-3 times because it gets to thin, and a thin flywheel does not hold up to heat very well..
