I've never worked on a rear end before but I am fairly mechanically inclined. I do all my own repairs beside transmission work. How difficult would it be for someone like myself to replace the differential and install a new gearset? Can I use a gearset from any year (82-02) in my 82 trans am? Is there a big difference between 3.42 and 3.73? Do I need any special tools to do the job? I have 3.73 (stock for 82 with LU5 WS6) and want lower highway rpm's (3 speed tranny).

you could also try doing a search and restrict your threads to one board instead of asking the same thing on multiple boards.
