T5 mainshaft assembly question
T5 mainshaft assembly question
After trying to remove the 3-4 synchro assembly and 5th driven gear from my mainshaft the other day so I can tear it down for the rebuild, I gave up and had a machine shop pull it apart (its times like this I wish I had an arbor press...)
So after getting the pieces back from the shop I started reassembling the mainshaft, then I noticed something- my shop manual makes mention of a thrust washer retaining pin for the 1st gear. However the washer shown in the manual doesn't look like the one that came off the mainshaft or the new one in the rebuild kit. Furthermore I didn't find a pin in the parts I got back so I assume it wasn't there. Even so, I don't see how the pin would work with the thrust washer that I have....
Is it possible this feature was used in only some T5 trannies? I have the NWC version, btw- and I can post a pic of my manual's drawing if it'll help.....
Thanks!
