700r4 wont shift out of park

i have a 1987 trans am with a 700r4 that i cannot get to shift out of park. with mutch force it will engage into reverse, but not "click" into it. i have the car running and the brake pedal pressed, what could this be?! the car has been sitting parked for about 5 months now, just got it started a couple weeks back, now i want to drive her and can't go, please help.

Car: Camaro of course
check the cabell on the bottom of the car, that connects your shifter to you tranny. It is one the driver's side. Make sure it is tight and nothing is obstructing it.

Disconnect the cable at the tranny and then try and move the shifter. Sounds like your cable is almost seized.

this happened on my first camaro. It was the cable. the 2 or 3 bolts that hold it on the tranny where missing
