3:42 or 3:73
I am thinking about getting some gears for my car. Currently I have 3:23 and with the modifications that I have made you can see in my sig, which should I go with for best performance 3:42 or 3:73.
Thanks

Welll...... Purely performance based .... 3.73's
You might not notice a difference from 3.23 to a 3.42 ....
go with the 3.73's

I was reading on a tech page that my car, an 89 RS, only came with 3.42 gears. Is this right? and if so..would it be worth my time to change them to 3.73.

I currently have factory 3.42s in a '91 Formula.
I've tried 3.08 to 3.42 to 3.73 swaps on my last 3rd gen. For my current 3rd gen I bought a set of Richmond Gears 3.73s and will be replacing the 3.42s in the spring. I find the 3.73s work best with the T-5.
my .02 cents worth,
RP.

Best gear ratio depends on your setup, speeds/gear through trap, torque converter, engine, hp, torque, type of power adders, rear tire diameter and what you want the car to do. Figure all of this out first. The taller gears don't alwasy make you go faster. Especially when you are out of the powerband or in the wrong gear through the traps. Lingenfelter uses 3.42's/3.45's on many of his customer's 3rd and 4th gens. I like my 3.45's. is it worth changing from 3.23 to 3.45? Probably not. I would alter one of the other factors, that will cost you less, or build your setup to match 3.73's and then get them. Just my opinion.
