im putting in a 350-400HP motor when summer starts, am i gonna kill my tranny? can i rebuild it to be stronger (or have someone else do it for a decent price) or should i just get a 400turbo? i don't do much highway driving (very little) and probably won't be doing much in the future (cept for roadtrips to beach maybe)

Well, I can teel you what I know. I believe that there were 3 versions of the 700 in 3rdgens. 1 was up until like '85 which was the weakest. 1 was like 86-87 through about 89 which was better, and the best was the 90-92. I also know that when I put a 365hp motor in my '87 which only had about 60 miles, the tranny grenaded as soon as I got on it. It broke into 1million pieces. My motor had 410ft lbs. and it was only running on 6-7 cylinders/ Anyway, my rebuild lasted me about 20k HARD HARD miles. It costed me about $1600 w/a good converter. I don't know if I'm gonna waste my time w/ another 700, but I know that if I do, I'll get one done by like Freddy Brown or someone. It'lll cost the same as a stock rebuild at most shops and last longer, usually around $1500/. I hear they can be strong, but I don't believe that because I've never seen it. If you're not going highway, I guess a 400 would be perfect. good luc
