Will this work in my rear end??
OK, I have a 2.73 open rear end. I was wanting to go to a 3.42 gear with the SLP posi ($99 one). Do I need to order the 3.42 gear that is for the 3.08 and lower carrier and what does it mean on the posi when it says this is a 3 series differential. Is this all I am going to need the gear and posi??? Just wanting to know before I order and get the wrong thing and have the car sitting in the shop for 2 weeks while I am swapping out for the right parts.

3 series means that the differential is sized to use actual 3-series gears, not the special ones. So you don't need the ones for the 3:08-down carrier, because your new carrier (aka posi, differential, etc.) is 3 series.
You need a gear install kit, which comes with all the shims, bearings, and some new ring gear bolts; it wouldn't be a bad idea to buy either the axle bearings and seals, or the "deluxe" kit which includes them, because then every single wear part in the rear will be new; and fluid, I highly recommend synthetic.
Additionally, a "crush sleeve eliminator" or "solid pinion spacer" makes assembly alot easier since with one of those, once you get the shims selected for proper preload you can tighten down the nut as tight as you want; and maybe one of the "stud girdle" type of covers if you're going to be putting any sort of real power to it.

Let me get this straight
I will need the posi from slp, the 3.42 gear for 3.23 and higher carrier, deluxe gear installation kit, crush sleeve eliminator and a stud girdle to really do the job right. One more question do I have a 7.5" 10 bolt AKA 7.625". Be patient with me I am still learning.
THANKS!!!!
