T-5 Swap- what kind of tranny to get? will a T-5 from a mustang work?
Hey peopl, I'm looking at doing the 700-R4->T-5 swap and I'm not really sure where and what kind of tranny to get, besides the obvious answer, the T5. Anyway, I'm looking to get a cheap one off of ebay, then having it rebuilt to withstand my blazing 230 horses.. yea right, but anyway. Is the World Class T-5 for Mustangs ok for my car? will it bolt right up just like if I got it out of a 91 5spd camaro? any advice helps, thanks people.
The mustang T5 will NOT work with your f-body. The Mustang T5 has a different bellhousing, splines and mounting location. Find one from a f-body. Here is link to requirements for the swap:

91 CAMARO Z28, THATS IS CORRECT THE T5 FROM A MUSTANG WILL NOT WORK. ALSO KNOW THAT A T5 FROM A V6 WILL NOT WORK EITHER. I HAVE DONE THIS SWAP IN MY CAR AND HAVE MADE THAT MISTAKE. THE V8 T5 IS A 26 SPLINE AND THE V6 T5 IS SOMETHING LIKE A 15 OR 16 SPLINE, I CANT REMEMBER. IF YOU HAVE NOT YET BOUGHT YOUR CLUTCH I WOULD RECOMEND THE CENTERFORCE DUAL FRICTION. MY CAR WAS A BONE STOCK 92 350 EXCEPT FOR JET CHIP, HOOKER SUPERCOMP LONGTUBE HEADERS AND CUSTOM H-PIPE(THAT DRUG EVERYWHERE), A CRANE FUEL PRESSURE REGULATOR, AND 8.8 ACCEL WIRES. TIMES IN THE 1/8 MILE WERE 8.60'S WITH STREET TIRES AND 8.20'S ON SLICKS. IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS ABOUT THE SWAP SEND ME AN E-MAIL AT PWEBBZ28@HOTMAIL.COM AND I WILL HELP YOU OUT. THE INSTRUCTIONS ON THE SITE WERE HELPFUL BUT A LITTLE INCOMPLETE.

If the v-6 T-5 won't work, how come I have one in my IROC? You have to get a clutch for an S-10 (1"X14 spline) for it to work, but it will work. I do however don't recommend it since it is very weak. I see mine broken in the very near future. The hunt for a T-56 is on.

I know Mcloud-sp? makes one and I think Centerforce does too. The problem is a good clutch will not allow any slip and destroy the trans. I agree that the V-6 T-5 is a bad choice if your actually buying a trans, but my T-5 and clutch were both free. :hail: FREE!
