T-5 with 58000K..good for 89 IROC 5.7?

Looking to put my manual tranny in an 89 Iroc-Z, i know it will fit and work, but what must i do to prep the ECM or any other electrical things in the cars, also what about the trans holding? will it strip out, or break or whatever if i put it in there. it came off my 91 rs, that is totalled, that had a 305 TBI, and i am worried that the man will not hold up against the 350 TPI. any info is cool.

well the T-5 is a weak tranny. they never put it behind the 350 for that reason. now if u put it in its not gonna blow up the secoudn u put it in gear. with such low milage behind a LO3 it should be in fairly nice shape. as long as you don't drop the clutch every 5 mins and beat on it constantly it will hold up for a long time. just drive normal and every once ina while get on it. I have a 350 makin about 350 horse with a 86k t-5 bolted to it. its only got 1500 miles with the 350 but thats with messed up hydraulics and almost burned breand new tires already from burnin out so much so yea gfo for it and if it blows get anohter or get a tremec or t-56

Guy on a vette forum I frequent ran a t-5 behind his blown 468 for a year with no problems. He said as long as you don't run slicks and/or powershift, they hold up pretty well. He also said to make sure you make clean shifts esp into 3rd since it seems to be the weakest gear. I am intalling a t-5 in my vette right now

Yea, the T5 is fine as long as you don't get too throttle-happy too often.

My T5 is 160,000 kms old and is behind a 350 and its still working ok.
