Transmission bolt specs
I recently replaced the clutch on my 88GTA project car (stock BW T5). The process went well thanks to the help I received from members here. Trouble is, I think I want to do it all over again only this time using all new bolts. I did some reading about bolts and how they function and I'd feel better with new hardware. The car is still apart (no fluids, driveshaft, etc), so doing it again won't be too bad. My question is, where can I find the specs for the bolts that I will need? The books I have give torque specs but not sizes. If anybody has access to this, I would be forever grateful. I'd like do everything, flywheel, pressure plate, bellhousing, tranny, dust shield, slave, all of it. I have found bolt kits for the motor but not the tranny. I think the extra work is worth it (as opposed to having my flywheel break free and slice my head off). Thanks.

why dont you take the bolt to the hardware store and match it up with a new one thats the right size and just buy grade 8 ones?

The BH-to-block bolts and the trans-to-BH bolts and all those other external ones, have very little stress on them. I would recommend leaving them alone and re-using them.
The flywheel bolts and the clutch bolts, on the other hand, can be a matter of life and death. But don't get them at the hardware store, or even worry about what they are; just get sets of the exact right thing from Mr Gasket or Moroso or ARP, from your local speed shop or mail-order. Clutch bolts in particular are special, they are very short but have a shoulder to dowel-pin the pessure plate to the flywheel in the precise correct location (centered), with no possibility of misalignment. DO NOT try to use anything else for those.

im assuming he was talking about trans to BH bols and belhousing to block bolts.....if you want new ones do like i said, you shouldnt need them, but then again its not like they are expensive.

I was more concerned with the important stuff (flywheel, and clutch). Now that you've scared the crap out of me RB, I will find some ARPs or something appropriate.

I love doing thatBut seriously, both the flywheel and clutch bolts are special; and don't foget, that's about40 lbs of stuff spinning at how many RPM? about 4" from your right foot.
They're less than $10 a set, about what you'd pay for the wrong thing at a hardware store. Pretty painless actually. I change mine every time I take a stock setup apart the first time, and every couple of times after that. Cheap insurance. I like my feet.
I actually knew somebody that was in a wheelchair for a clutch explosion at the race track.... he had no left leg below the knee, and his right leg ended about 8" below the hip. He was not a happy man.

You're a ray of sunshine. Do you do parties?
I'm not overly excited about tearing it all down again, but I like my feet too. I'll will be certain to double-check the torque, use thread lock. Do you recommend those special bolt locks for the flywheel?
