1st gear whine in 700r4?

Is it normal to hear a whirring or whinning when you leave the 700r4 in 1st gear at slow speeds? its not real loud but its something i dont hear when i leave the car in overdrive. im talking about like 5-10mph. if its not normal is it signs of a bad tranny? i dont hear or notice it in any other gear. its not a loud noise just a slight whirring or whinning like i said.

I beleive that would be normal, much like the noise the car makes when in reverse at about the same speeds. One extra clutch is applied when in manual first (lo-reverse clutch)as compared to Drive or OverDrive which may explain why.

If your ever in doubt about something internal coming apart, just pull the pan. Most debris of a failed compontent will end up in the pan. Even if you find nothing, there is no such thing as replacing the fluid to much.

yeah it sounds very much like a reverse gear, i dont know why i didnt make that connection. i'll probably be getting new fluid for it anyway just as preventative mantience.
