Very good. Thanks again for your business. As for the codes on the tag, I don't know. How I check if the tag is unlegible or there's no sticker with the RPO codes is to remove the cover and look on the side of the ring gear. It should have the ratio stamped on it. AFAIK, the only ratio 9 bolt that was available as a one-legger was the 3.08 and maybe some 2.77's. All of the G92 cars were posi and had the good 3 series ratio's (3.27, 3.45, and 3.70).

This came up after a trip to Autozone looking to price axle bearings. The clerk indicated the computer needed to know if the tag on the rear indicated a C or a T. He stated the notes referred to whether it was a chevrolet or pontiac rear end. He looked at me funny when I told it was a 9 bolt borg warner from australia. I'm not slamming autozone, but I don't have the info to fill in the blank for him.

I know what you're talking about now. The best thing to do since you can't read the tag is to remove the old bearings and take them to the auto zone with you that way they can get the number off of it and then you can compare the 2 side by side.

Axle bearings are Timken set 9. You can use tapered or straight and all 9 bolts use the same axle bearings!

I would replace the axle bearings and seals, replace the oil with a good synthetic fluid. Now would be a good time to buy a shim kit and "tighten" your posi. See the above thread for instructions. Just be sure to reference what orientation the shims and bearing caps were for the left and right journals and you'll be fine!

If I was to go that far I'd buy an overhaul kit and replace the pinion bearings too. The carrier bearings are probably fine, but pinion bearings are know to wear out and cause the demise of a 9 bolt rear. I listed several sources for parts in my other post titled 9 bolt info. Reider Racing would probably be the cheapest for a complete overhaul kit with Timken bearings. Ratech would problably be the cheapest for individual parts.
Good Luck.
