auto. shifting...

I have a '92 v-6 automatic. i usually drive w/ it in drive, and if i'm the highway then in overdrive. i like racin people from stoplight to stoplight, and i usually just have it in drive for that. will i get better acceleration if i switch to 1, then 2, then D then OD manually? also, if i'll get better acceleration by "shifting" on my own, should i shift at the redline? and if not, where...thanks

i think leaving in it drive works best for me, manually shifting i hardly do.

but manually shifting i would shift at like 4,500 everygear in my car.

my car seems to run a tad faster leaving it in drive...

i always run my car in overdrive unless i am about to race...

700r4 transmissions have extra holding members when manualy shifted , make the trans stronger . I found out the hard way that dropping from 4th straight to 2nd , and hammering blows the one way clutch apart . If you go to 3rd then 2nd less likly to do damage . because 3rd and 2nd use some of the same holding members .

you run in overdrive unless you're about to race.....so you do manually switch gears when you're racing? or race in drive?

I always shift manually weith my auto... one it gives me a little sence of driving stick..makes me feel better about myself.. 2 my car seems to have much more tork in 1st and 2nd gears.. plus when racing you never take it out of drive for overdrive unless you racing a straight 2 mile straightaway and you redline in drive

well at the track i like to do both ways.. but drive seems to work best for me..

on the street just crusing i run in od all the time..

when street racing i throw it in drive and run like that.
when street racing you dont really have time to sit there and warm up the tires, so i leave it in drive so i can hook up better, because anywhere in first gear i spin the tires at wot.
