I messed up my tranny tonight!

I can't figure what happened , I was kind of tired and this mustang gt kept at me until I went for it. No problem with him , I kind of knew I was going to smack him down but I still went for it. Ok after I slowed down and high beamed to show it was over , he kept reving his engine, so this is where I don't know if I went into reverse or maybe downshifted, I just remember reving my enigne and the engine acting as if it was in neutral so that is when I started messing with the shifter and bang I started hopping all over the road. I went home real slow. When I get home I take a look underneath the car and I see that the trans cover broke , the bolts are still attached to the engne block just the cover seperated(broke) . It broke enough that while the car is on ramps the starter will not engage the flexplate.

When you say "cover, bolts still in engine" are you referring to the transmission bellhousing? If that is broken or cracked, then the tranny is done. Other than "used" you can't buy just a tranny case.
