I just pulled my transmission and replaced the clutch assembly.

I used an alignment tool to get the PP and disc where they need to be, but rather than bolting on the Bellhousing to the Tranny BEFORE installing, i bolted up the housing and then the trans. When cinching down the 4 bolts on the tranny-to-housing area, i noticed the trans shaft was sticking out of the back, about 1 inch...i dont recall those sticking out when i pulled the drive shaft off before. I think its supposed to be INSIDE the tail or almost flush.

This obviously tells me that my shaft isnt inside my pilot bearing where it should be, but Ive never seen/heard of a trans shaft allowing itself to sneak out the tail like that....what gives?

Does this mean new tranny, a complete rebuild..or pull the tranny and push the shaft back up?

thanks

No, it definitely is supposed to stick out. It's impossible for the clutch gear to push the mainshaft out of the extension housing.

You should be able to put the trans in neutral and spin the mainshaft by hand.

I love this board.
