My trans filter will not go up as far as I think it should. I've seen remarks that it should go up to the valve body, but my replacement from discount Auto is either just above or touching the pan. Yes, I pulled the old filter ring out. How far up should it go and how do you get it there without beating on the filter?

All the ones HITHERE have ever installed have just about rested on the bottom of the pan. Just have to work the filter in the best you can and stick your pan back on. Dry fit it and make sure it will go in all the way. Dry fitting the pan to the tranny has saved me more than once. Also, MAKE SURE you have the right filter.
