700R4 valve body differences

can a valve body be switched between an 85 tranny and an 87 tranny or other year ans still function correctly? One valve body has GM3 on the casting while the other has GM2. I don't know the significance between the numbers. I'm not sure the vintage of the two trannys so what can I do to tell their compatability or year?

The reason for all this is I'm trying to narrow down a shifting issue on a tranny that had sat for a while. It seems the TV valve doesn't want to fully disengage.

Use the Trans-Go Shift kit (green & white box) and it will solve all the issues and more.
