85 NWC in an 89 GTA LB9, good or bad?

The trans is originally from an 85 Camaro with a 5.0 from the info I got at 5speed.com. In 1985 GM didnt allow the LB9 to be ordered with a T5 but allowed a T5 to be ordered with lessor 5.0's like the HO and the TBI both around 240 ft/lbs of torque. the 85 LB9 motor put out 275 ft/lbs of torque and my 89 LB9 is rated around 295-300 ft/lbs.

Heres my question, considering GM didnt think the 85 T5 NWC was worthy of handling 275 ft/lbs of torque and my motor is rated at 295-300 would this be a bad idea of a potential tranny to install in place of the blown original?

Any help is greatly appreciated

it is a t-5. NWC and WC boxes only had about a 10% diffrence in torque capacities. Either was niether can take much so just put it in and roll with it. If you are worried about strength convert it to a t-56.

There are plenty of people running the NWC behind more potent 350 engines and not having problems. Just dont constantly beat it to death and it will be fine. I had one behind a 400+ ft lb 350 and beat it to death because I had a spare, it finally died on me. The one I replaced it with, I did not completely beat on all the time and it held up just fine.
Good Luck!
