Rear axle question
Rear axle question
The rear axle on my 82 is toast. The bearings are going out and the diff creaks when going around corners slowly. I am thingking the best (cheapest) thing to do would be to swap out the axle for a good used axle from a salvage yard. My current axle has disk breaks, my question is if I bought a used axle with drum breaks, could I swap the disk breaks off of my current axle and put them on the axle with drum breaks?

I'd say contact 88 427 Camaro as I had similar problems before and he recomended a nice, cheap way to fix them.
So this is essentially a bump. If no one responds then contact him, vader, or ed miller. There are quite a few more people out there who could help you but those three seem to post helpful stuff the most.

disc to drum
the backing plates are different for the disc and drum brake systems.. you'll need to find a disc rear end to make the swap simple...
