DRIVESHAFT loop

OK, HOW is the driveshaft loop a "must for racing" (someone told me that)... What does it DO exactly, is it just incase you screwed someting up and you are expecting the driveshaft to come flying off at any second... Or is it to "guide" it.. ??

loop

There's mention of this on boards about what happens if you do a search...

if you are dragging, and your driveshaft comes appart at the front end.. it can drop into whatever you are driving on and send your car into a flip and *** know what else, and where it might go,... safety thing...

Unless you are making enough power to twist your DS apart you probably don't need it. Although anything can happen I guess and its always nice to have for extra insurance. Depending on where the DS breaks it does have the possibility of catapulting you I believe, if not its just gonna be swinging around and banging everything up, which isn't good either

It is a requirement once you hit 11's. Probably won't ever need it but its better to be on the safe side.

According to IHRA or NHRA rules a driveshaft loop is mandatory on ANY car running slicks (no matter what ET). It must be bolted to the floorpan using a minimum of 4 x 3/8" bolts, located no futher than 6" from the front U joint and the loop must be made of min. 2" x 1/4" steel.

If you need it or not is up to you but none the less it still makes a hell of a safety feature for any RWD car.
