rear end noises

Ive posted this msg before and still havnt gotten any reply's so i thought id post it again. Once the car has warmed up it starts to make a clicking sound coming from the rear end. More noticable when de-accelerating at like 20mph or slower. What i hear is a clicking sound then once the car has stopped it makes a loud clunk. I just replaced the u-joints & checked diff fluid level. It does have 100,000 miles on it. Could this be the signs of needing to rebuild the rear? Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

does the clicking change speed and/or loudness when you press the pedal and let off?

the clicking sound gets slower as the car slows. Then when the car stops it makes a loud clunk. If i get on the gas the sound goes away.

Check the torque are bushing. My car was doing that. If that dont fix it jack the rear up and move the back wheels back and forth with it in park. Watch the tailshaft and it might have to much play.

Hope this helps!

It could be something with the play in the rear gears. Pull the cover off and manualy turn the rear to check for any abnormalities in the ring and pinion gears.

Guys, I've got the same issue, and have checked everything that has been stated on this subject, that could be the possible culprit and everything checks out okay. Basically, you hear it when you're driving less that 5 mph, or in some cases when you're coming to a stop. I'm at a loss, and so is my mechanic, because he's checked everything, including the brakes. I just drive until it quits on me. Then I'll know for sure what the problem is...

Re: rear end noises

If you have automatics the "clicking" your hearing, could be the governor weights.
A hard Clunk is another matter, I would check all your rear control arm, panhard rod, shock, torque arm and swaybar nuts and bolts. Even give your calipers and mounts a good once over if you have rear disc .
I have even seen a rotor and a drum move/clunk because of a wheel that wasn't torqued properly!

Re: rear end noises

Change the fluid in your rear and be sure to add the anti foaming agent to it.

TTop305,

Now, I will say that I do have to replace my sway bar nuts and bolts, so that may be causing the problem, but everything else you mentioned has been checked... Replacing soon, so if that takes care of the issue, I'll let you guys know...
