30 mile per gallon (my car did it)

About a week ago me and three of my friends drove from Central Florida to Miami for a weekend of partying in my 1992 RS 305 Automatic. In total the trip was something like 800 miles.

The surprising thing was that on they way there with the ac running the whole time we made a little over 25 miles per gallon. However the more amazing part of the story is that on the way back with the ac off for most of the time we made 30 miles per gallon.

I still have my original window sticker which reads 28 miles per gallon on the highway so I was honestly surprised that I made such good gas mileage with such an old car.

Additionally the car has minimal modifications and well over a hundred thousand miles on the engine. Howver I did average over 100 miles per hour for the majority of the trip so that might have had something to do with it.

unless you hve about 2.0 gears in teh back and overdrive i would think that 100mph would HURT your mpg. i think in a 2.73 700R4 , isn't the optimal speed somewhere around 70-75?

As far as I know the rearend and all the gears are stock. I was surprised to get such good gas milleage and I am 100% sure I did the calculations correctly.

Must be nice, I just got 16.8 for a week of mixed city and highway driving and thought I was doing good. Oh, well, time for a T-56

Well, the T-56 is a good thought, but it did not help me. In my case, my car lugs in 5th and 6th and burns more fuel!

I have a vacuum gauge and it is pretty cool to see what it does at different time. Sometimes it is not what you think.
