new project tranny question(s)
Hi everybody,
I am in the planning stage of doing some major upgradin' to my 88 camaro. Right now it has 2.8L MPI V6 which I plan to swap out for 330hp 350ci V8. Along with the new engine I am pretty sure I will need a new transmission and that's why I am here.
I was first considering going with a T56, but after doing some reading it looks like a rebuilt T5 may be better (and cheaper) choice. I was also reading the thread on G-Force T5 Kits which looks kinda cool.
Here's the question(s). Assuming I go with a T5(WC), what is the best source to get that transmission? What cars used to have them? What is involved in installing T5 into 88 f-body? I know for T56 you have to create your own cross member to make it fit and you would need a driveshaft that is 4" shorter. Would T5 be similar to that, or is it closer to a bolt on? Would I be able to reuse my drive shaft?
