Gasket Maker or Not?

Simple question:

Should I use gasket maker to seal the surfaces between the throttle valve cable and the transmission or not?

I just replaced mine and it leaks like sh*t.

i'd use the seal, i'm not a big fan of rtv or anything similar for making seals and gaskets.

This is the first time I replaced this cable, and I didn't notice any seal. The mating surfaces were both clean. Where is it supposed to be?

There is a rubber seal that fits into that little hole that the tv rod comes out of... Sometimes it sticks to the old cable upon removal.. You need that seal or it will leak bad when you shut the car off (and the fluid level rises past that point in the trans)...

Can someone help me out here??? I'm just a little bit frustrated.

I got the seal you've been talking about and put it on the new cable end. I put it all back together and it STILL LEAKS! This isn't rocket science... I don't want a frickin space shuttle launch, just a leakless port. What am I doing wrong??? I tried torqing down the bolt to stop the dripping only to crack the plastic tongue on the housing. So, knowing I can't get another cable for at least 5 days since no one carries it around here, I used some trusty JB weld. It holds the plastic together ok and the surface is still nice and smooth. Still... leak! What's the deal?

Is it the TV cable leaking?

Or is it the cooler lines that were not fully tightened?

Check into it.
