Do you really need a speedo?

Im swapping the t56 in. and im ordering the abbot cablex as soon as i have the cash for it...does the car need the speedometer to run? i know the ecm knows what speed the car is going, if it shows 0 mph is it going to effect driveabillity? will it trip trouble codes? basically im asking. If i dont hook up the speedometer will the car still run right?

ive searched on this and i couldnt find an exact answer.

It will hurt drivability noticably if you're EFI. With a computer carb, very little. With a non computer carb, none at all.

I ran my car without a speedo for a few months until I got my cable x box hooked up. It didn't seem to hurt performance too much, but it did affect it some and it didn't idle quite right. And it will trip a code so you will have the ses light on all the time.

I just ran my speed by my rpms and never had a problem in the town I was in at the time, and the cops were out to bust ya big time. I just kept it a little low to be on the safe side. The only time I got into trouble is when I was driving home and going through nebraska, I got clocked for doing 75 in a 65 as I was getting ready to pass a truck. You really have to watch your rpms in 6th gear if you don't have a speedo, even just a few hundred rpms can change your speed quite a bit.
