700R4 drops out when shifting from 2-3

I have a 86 T/A and the 700R4 that's in there drops from 2nd back into 1st and will not shift into 3rd. I am considering switching to a 400. Before I do I would like to know if there is a simple fix to the 700 and if I switch to the 400 would I have to make any major changes or mods for the switch?

Thanks for any and all help.

I'm not sure what's wrong with your tranny, but I do know that you probably wouldn't want a 400. You would be better off getting a th350 with a 9inch tailshaft. I believe that with the 400 you would have to lengthen the driveshaft.

there is alot that has to be done to use a 400

the kit by hurst includes the crossmember and torque arm bracket

then you will need to have your driveshaft modded

you will also need a turbo 400 yoke

and a kickdown switch

its worth it though, IMO

Thanks for your help and suggestions on the problem. I've found a shop that has rebuilt and will rebuild transmissions either stock or highperformance. I can get a 700R4 already rebuilt with corvette servo's, shift kit, teflon bushings....fully tricked out for $595!!!!!!!!!!!!! He deals with any and every transmission out there.. He is located in Tarpon Springs Florida (Street/Strip Transmissions) ph# (727) 487-3020 or (727) 942-7900.
