Lost overdrive

Two weeks ago I lost overdrive. Now I drive in drive but the car is not liking it. When I get to about 40-50 I switch into OD and it will work. But will not work on low speeds. Any ideas? The car ('92 firebird) is in excellent shape but it sure has costing alot to keep it that way. Not sure what to do.

Well, like you said OD isn't supposed to kick in until you reach that 40-50 mph mark. What is probably happening is that there's a switch that's stuck closed. OD is not designed to work under that mph mark. I'm not too familiar with this particular system on the car but I'm an electrician and this is what it sounds like to me. Maybe it could help someone out. I'll look through some wiring diagrams for ya in the meantime.
