i think i broke the torque converter

by car has a realy bad bang coming frome the rear of the motor. at firs i thought that i may have killed a lifter till it got louder. so i pulled the valve covers and checked all the lifters. they where all ok. so i had my dad take a look at it and he said that he thinks it sounds like i broke some thing in the converter. it sounds sort of like a knock but it has a tinny nes to it like if you hit a screw driver on a valve cover.

this might help,

Torque Converters...
Torque converter noises are easy to isolate. Since the entire converter (pump, turbine and stator) turns while the transmission is in park and neutral, a converter noise will go away in those ranges. When the transmission is in gear and the drive wheels are stationary, the turbine in the torque converter doesn't spin, because the turbine shaft is stationary. This is when the bearing between the turbine and main housing of the converter is working. If the noise is there only in gear with the drive wheels stationary and goes away in neutral, suspect the torque converter. There is an exception with the AOD transmission. The direct drum of an AOD is always turning while the engine is running. For this reason, a torque converter noise can be easily confused with the noise made by one of the direct drum bearings.
Tip: A torque converter noise will get quieter as the drive wheels begin rolling slowly from a stop.

Your dad's guess isn't too bad, it's close, but I don't think it's exactly right. It's probably not something inside the converter.

The flex plate cracks quite often. Very common. I'd bet that's what it is. They crack around the bolts in the center, eventually the center breaks out entirely, until then they just make lots of noise. Usually sounds like a rod knock. Often it will make more noise in neutral and less in drive.
