K, my tv cable broke about 3 months ago, in a pinch I jury rigged it (tied the cable to the carb linkage) and it seemed to work okay, bought a new cable, but this seemed to be working, so left it......
Well as luck would have it, it broke. Car was taken down the track 3x's like this (cost about 0.5sec on et for those that dont believe it's necessary), and driven about 200miles. My questions

1. Did I lose the tranny? The fluid didn't smell real good, but when I changed it out, there was only 6 or so metal shavings in the pan, and none of them where what I'd call chunks, just large shavings.

2. The new tv cable was about 4" shorter than the one I took out. The new one fit, and it's adjusted fine. Tranny on this car has always been a source of frustration (bad shifts), were there different length TV's for this car, and would having the wrong one make the tranny run like crap???

I can't beleive your transmission would work at all with a different length tv cable. Your shift points are based on the tv cable being the right length.

 

sad thing is the tranny worked better with the jury rig that it does with the new TV, ran once shifted really hard but late, readjusted (reset the cable and when full out on the throttle), marked the cable so I know it was not out as far, and shifted late still.... pulled the racheting mechanism out as far as I could.... and still late, but not as hard......Good thing is my car is consistent even with a crazy tranny and wife won her race tonight (trophy class, but it's something)
