my speedo wont work

i swapped to a th-350 and installed a new speedo cable as well and my speedo still wont work. i took the cable out of the trans and spun it and the gauge moved, so i put it back into the trans and took it out and the speedo didnt work. does the th-350 use a different kind of speedo drive or are those plastic gears stripped???

I would say that your speedo driven gear is stripped (probably where the driven gear meshes with the drive gear). When you take the cable off, peek into the hole that the end of the cable goes in (this is the end of the driven gear). If it looks rounded, you need to replace the driven gear with one of the same color (so you maintain the proper ratios). If it looks fine, the teeth where the driven gear contact the drive gear (which is on the output shaft) may be stripped and worn. Either way, take out that little retaining bolt, then pull out the speedo cable receptor assy. out and take a look inside... If you can turn the cable manually and have the speedo inside work, it will be one of those three possibilities..
